Hands-on balance
Sunday’s here, and for DIY enthusiasts (and those of us who aren’t), it’s the ultimate “home maintenance” day. Whether we’re sprucing up a room or tackling some chores, these last 24 hours of the week are all about getting our “practical life” in order. Now, if you’re like me, and when you were growing up your grandmother was always busy in the kitchen and your grandfather was a jack of all trades, you might find today’s digital, virtual world a bit of a challenge. DIY is our way of fighting back – winning a hands-on victory in a time when everything feels abstract and intangible.
Even better, getting stuck into some physical work isn’t just liberating, it’s a major stress buster. It lets your brain take a break from the daily grind and wander freely, finding fresh ideas to take through with you into Monday!
Luckily you don’t need to embark on a full-scale home renovation to feel the buzz. Simply pick a hobby that takes you from an idea (point A) to a reality (point B). Whether you’re diving into a good book, painting your next masterpiece, or sewing up a storm, it’s all about the journey. It’s a discrete dose of self-care, a way to express ourselves through something “real”, something you can hold onto when everything else feels like it’s slipping through your fingers.
We are what we think, what we do, and where we go. But most importantly, we are how we get there – one step at a time, always a work in progress. Sunday after Sunday (and every other day of the week!).
So, here’s to a super productive day, whatever that means for you!
