Living true to yourself…

Living true to yourself… - Marco Moreo Milano

“Who are you?”... is the question that the Caterpillar asks the protagonist of the famous animated film dedicated to a mysterious Wonderland. It’s also a question that we all have to grapple with at some point in our life.

Thinking about it, we all spend our childhood sheltered under the protective umbrella of our family, our adolescence seeking approval from our peers, our youth trying to find a partner to build a life with, our adulthood living for our children, and our old age reminiscing about the years gone by…

But when are we truly ourselves, in touch with our own personality, and content with our “here and now”? Perhaps we’re too distracted by life’s whirlwinds spinning around us to really stop and focus on our identity? We tend to underestimate the decisions, big and small, through which we pay homage to our way of life and our sense of self: from choosing subjects at school to picking a profession, from forging friendships to fostering romantic relationships, from deciding to have children to planning special trips.

But we also reinforce our essence as individuals every day through what we eat, the films we watch and the clothes we wear. Nothing is left purely to chance, and even when it seems as though we’re living through the eyes and minds of others, in reality we are still deciding how we want to come across and what we want to convey. And this is what makes possible not only the myriad of elective affinities we cultivate with our fellow human beings, but also the daily rebellions (from the days of refusing baby food to getting home after curfew) with which we reclaim our freedom.

We are ourselves every day, authors of our own improvement and our own “self”. And I like to think that even when you choose a pair of my shoes, you find in my creations a way to express your own beauty, freedom and personality.

Until next time, with new tips... and tricks!
