For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR"), Catlan Trading Limited is the data controller for personal data processed through cookies and similar technologies on this website.
This Cookie Policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains in more detail how we process personal data, who we share it with, how long we keep it and what rights you have.
2. WHAT COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES ARE
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device when you visit it. Cookies allow the website to recognise your device, remember your actions and preferences, and collect information about how you use the site.
We also use technologies that work in a similar way and are treated the same way under the law, including:
- Local storage and session storage, which store information in your browser
- Pixels and tags, small pieces of code or transparent images that record that a page or an email has been opened
- Software development kits and scripts provided by third parties that read or write information on your device
Throughout this policy, "cookies" means all of these technologies.
3. THE LEGAL BASIS FOR USING COOKIES
In Ireland, the use of cookies is governed by the European Communities (Electronic Communications Networks and Services) (Privacy and Electronic Communications) Regulations 2011 (S.I. No. 336 of 2011), which implement Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive 2002/58/EC, together with the GDPR.
Under those rules:
- Strictly necessary cookies do not require your consent. We place them on the basis that they are essential for the operation of the website and for services you have specifically requested.
- All other cookies require your prior consent. We do not place them until you have given consent through our cookie banner, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Refusing non-essential cookies will not prevent you from browsing the site, adding items to your basket or completing a purchase.
4. CATEGORIES OF COOKIES WE USE
Our consent panel presents three categories: Essential, Functional and Marketing. Essential cannot be switched off. Functional and Marketing are off by default and you can accept or refuse each of them independently.
Please note that the Marketing category covers both advertising and audience measurement. Accepting it allows both purposes; refusing it means that no advertising and no analytics technologies are used, and that we receive no measurement data about your visit.
Our consent panel also lists individual services alongside the categories. A single service can set cookies that serve more than one purpose, so the tables below describe each cookie by its actual purpose rather than by the service grouping shown in the panel.
4.1 Essential
These cookies are required for the website to function. They enable core features such as keeping your basket, remembering your country and language, keeping your session secure, protecting against fraud and abuse, and recording your cookie choices. They cannot be switched off.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _shopify_essential | Shopify | Essential site and session functionality, including security and correct routing of requests | Up to 1 year |
| cart, cart_currency | Shopify | Stores the contents and the currency of your basket | Up to 2 weeks |
| localization | Shopify | Remembers your country and language selection | Up to 2 weeks |
| _shop_app_essential | Shopify | Enables Shop Pay and Shop app features where these are offered to you | Session |
During checkout, and while you are signed in to a customer account, the Shopify platform sets a small number of additional strictly necessary cookies that maintain a secure session, prevent fraud and process payment. These are set only in those contexts. A complete list of the cookies used by the Shopify platform is published by Shopify.
4.2 Functional
This category controls technologies that adapt how the site is presented to you and that load resources provided by third parties for that purpose. At present it does not set any cookies of its own on this website. If you accept it, web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means that a request is made to a Google server and your IP address is transmitted to Google as part of that request. If you refuse it, the site is displayed using locally available fonts.
4.3 Marketing and analytics
These technologies measure how visitors find and use the site, how our advertising performs, and allow us to show you our advertising on other websites and social platforms and to avoid showing you the same advertising repeatedly. They involve sharing information with the providers listed below. As explained above, this single category covers both advertising and measurement.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _fbp, _fbc | Meta Platforms Ireland Limited | Measure the performance of our advertising on Facebook and Instagram and build advertising audiences. _fbc is set only if you reach this website from a Meta advertisement. | Up to 3 months |
| __kla_id, __kla_viewed | Klaviyo | Identify you for email marketing and for on-site messaging such as sign-up forms | Up to 2 years |
| _shopify_y, shopify_client_id | Shopify | Distinguish unique visitors for analytics and reporting | Up to 1 year |
| _shopify_s | Shopify | Distinguishes individual browsing sessions for analytics | 30 minutes |
| _shopify_analytics | Shopify | Supports the analytics and reporting features of the Shopify platform | Up to 1 year |
| _shopify_marketing | Shopify | Attributes your visit to a marketing source so that we can measure the performance of our campaigns | Up to 1 year |
The providers named above are the ones we work with at the date shown at the top of this page. If we introduce additional advertising or analytics providers, we will update this policy and the configuration of our consent banner before those providers are activated, so that the choices you have made continue to be applied.
5. THIRD PARTIES AND INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
Some of the cookies described above are set by third parties who process your data for their own purposes as well as ours. The main ones are Shopify, which provides our e-commerce platform, Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, which provides our advertising measurement, and Klaviyo, which provides our email marketing platform.
In addition to the technologies placed on your device, some of these providers also receive information about your activity directly from our servers. In particular, where you have accepted the Marketing category, our store sends event data to Meta through the Meta Conversions API. That data may include the pages and products you have viewed, items you have added to your basket, details of an order you have placed, and identifiers such as your email address and telephone number, which are transmitted in hashed form, together with your IP address. Where you have not accepted the Marketing category, this transmission does not take place.
Where these providers process personal data outside the European Economic Area, the transfer is made subject to the safeguards described in our Privacy Policy. Please refer to that document for details of the mechanisms relied on and of the providers involved.
6. TRACKING IN OUR EMAILS
If you subscribe to our marketing emails, those emails may contain a small transparent image, known as a tracking pixel, which loads when you open the message. Where that pixel allows us to identify you individually and to measure how you engage with our emails, we treat it in the same way as a non-essential cookie and we ask for your consent separately from your consent to receive the emails themselves.
You can withdraw your consent to email tracking at any time, independently of your subscription, through our Email Preferences page or through the link at the bottom of any marketing email. Withdrawing consent to tracking does not unsubscribe you, and unsubscribing does not require you to accept tracking.
Most email applications also allow you to block remote images, which prevents tracking pixels from loading.
7. HOW TO CHANGE OR WITHDRAW YOUR CHOICES
On this website. Select Read more in the cookie banner to open the consent panel, where you can accept or refuse each category and each individual service. Your new choices take effect immediately and apply to future browsing. If the banner is no longer displayed, you can reopen the consent panel from the cookie settings link in the footer of this website.
In your browser. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Instructions are provided by each browser vendor, and the settings are usually found under Privacy or Security. Please be aware that blocking all cookies, including strictly necessary ones, may prevent parts of this website from working, including the basket and checkout.
Global Privacy Control. If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we respect it where it applies.
8. YOUR RIGHTS
Where cookies involve the processing of your personal data, you have the rights set out in the GDPR, including the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Our Privacy Policy explains how to exercise them.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish supervisory authority:
Data Protection Commission
6 Pembroke Row, Dublin 2, D02 X963, Ireland
www.dataprotection.ie
If you are resident in another EU or EEA country, you may instead complain to the supervisory authority of that country.
9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Cookie Policy when the cookies we use change, when the platforms, apps or advertising providers we rely on change, or when the law or regulatory guidance changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Where a change introduces a new category of cookies, or materially changes the purposes described above, we will ask for your consent again before the change takes effect.
